Growers, packers, and shippers of quality produce
Joel, Maria, and Greg Rasmussen
R.A. Rasmussen and Sons, Inc. started as a family operation converting from dairy farming to growing vegetables in 1975. Originally a partnership with several family members, Greg Rasmussen ,along with his wife, Joel, is now the sole owner. Tomatoes were the first crop grown on the farm. Soon tomatoes were abandoned and the crop choices evolved to the current crops grown: onions, cucumbers, bell peppers, and asparagus. In the early 1980’s drip irrigation was used on cucumbers and bell peppers. By the mid 1980’s onions were grown with drip irrigation, too. Now, 95% of the farm crops are irrigated this way.
The farm provided summer jobs for many a 3rd generation Rasmussen, but Maria Rasmussen (Greg’s daughter) is the only one involved now. She began working at the farm again this year. She is in charge of monitoring plant nutrients, pests, and water.
